Comedians tell Prime Minister Howard to take Election Viagra!

In the build up to the Australian elections on November the 24th, Australian comedians, journalists and lobbyists have taken every opportunity to poke fun at Prime Minister John Howard and his 11 years in charge of the country. He has become an easy target as he takes his predictable early morning power walks around Sydney Harbour.

In recent weeks a number of daily stunts have been widely reported in the media, including one of the latest stunts by a group of ladies dressed in 1950’s style clothing and calling themselves the John Howard Ladies Auxiliary Fan Club. They ambushed the 68-year-old prime minister and offered him “Election Viagra” to keep his “Election Up!”.

Another stunt involved an actor pulling up in a DeLorean dressed as Doctor Emmitt Brown out of the film and offered to take him “Back-to-the-future” in an attempt to salvage his election.

Sydney based satirist Stefan Sojka has even produced a song that he has posted on YouTube which mocks Mr Howard’s age and conservative policies. The song entitled “Bennelong time since I rock and rolled”, which combines the name of Howard’s Sydney electorate with the Led Zeppelin song “Been a long time…”.

Poor old Mr Howard must be feeling the pressure and one lobbyist group has just the answer for him, a new brand of specially bottled wine that is labelled “Howard’s End” and displays a cartoon of the prime minister hurtling towards a rubbish bin. The label reads: “Howard’s End is perfect for any situation. Whether with friends, toasting John and (wife) Janette out of Kirribili (residence), or brooding alone on 11 years of opportunities lost.”

Mr Howard’s ratings have been plummeting in the recent opinion polls and many expect him to lose the election on Nov 24th.
